Family, Friends, Food, and Happiness

Family Friends Food FB

Family Friends Food FBI’ve been MIA for the past week and I’m so sorry about that! I decided that I wanted to take a week off from blogging and focus on my family. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful and appreciate what you have, so that’s exactly what I did. I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, food and happiness!I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, food and… Click To Tweet

We had a great Thanksgiving. This year I was able to help a lot because we had a huge celebration at my dads’ house with the entire family (around 40 people)! We also celebrated his 60th birthday which was a surprise. He knew the family was coming over, but he was clueless that we were also having a party for him. His girlfriend asked me to help a bit, which was nice to have a bit of control with a holiday. Usually all of the matriarchs have everything handled and we just need to make 1 dish and show up.

I enjoy cooking for a purpose and for others to enjoy. I have a tendency to get bored cooking mainly for the boys because well… they’re boys… they don’t like half of the food that I make! If our oldest was allowed to eat tacos every single day, he would. It’s nice to have your hard work appreciated! My husband enjoy’s cooking also, so it was great to get in the kitchen with him and cook together.I enjoy cooking for a purpose and for others to enjoy Click To Tweet

helping mom cookOur 2nd son helped me make my brothers gluten-free/dairy free stuffing and he had so much fun! He is so independent and didn’t want me to even get near the bowl when he was mixing. I tried to let him do everything himself, but I did need to step him and help mix.

My husband has been home for the past week and we’ve loved being able to spend every day with him. It’s so nice to see how excited our boys get when they see him walk in the door from work at night. I was so grateful that he was able to work in town and be able to help around the house. We did some much-needed deep cleaning in our living room and oldest sons bedroom. Our plan was to get all the Christmas decorations up, but that didn’t happen. I’m ok with it though, the boys and I can slowly get the decorations up this week.

We went to my moms’ house on Saturday and had Thanksgiving there with our grandma and that side of the family. It was very different from my dad’s house, we were all able to sit at the table together and pass the food around, where at my dads there was so much food that some was upstairs and some was downstairs and everyone was all over the place… which is just like his family so it worked out just fine. It was a big giant party. I was very grateful that I was able to have another Thanksgiving with my grandma, even if it wasn’t on Thanksgiving day. She makes these green beans with little white beans mixed in and some vinegar I think…. omg… I love them! I ate probably more than I should have, but they’re veggies right… it’s all good!

Christmas Pictures 2015Yesterday (Sunday) our friend Lindsay, who is also a photographer came to my mom’s house and took Christmas pictures of boys. This is a tradition that my mom has carried on since my brother and I were young. I love that she does this for us because I love any pictures, but being able to have professional pictures of our boys is so much better I think. The quality is wonderful and the poses that we come up with every year are always fun to do. The boys were troopers as usual. We used lemonade and cookies to bribe our 2-year-old when we started to lose him, and we used the pacifier for the baby when he was getting tired of being posed lol. Here’s a little sneak peek!

Overall, I’m very happy that I decided to take a little break from blogging, I love it, but I love spending time with my family more.

100 Days of Happiness: Week 3

100 Days of Happiness: Week 3

100 Days of Happiness: Week 3

Day 14: Today was a somewhat stressful day. We’re all getting over this virus which I’m so grateful about, but the baby is having a tough time, so after we picked our oldest son up from school we headed to the doctor. She gave the baby a steroid injection, oral steroid, oral antibiotic and breathing treatments. My happiness came when the injection kicked in and the junk in his lungs started loosening, which happened within an hour!

100 Days of Happiness: Week 3Day 15: Today was better! I was able to get a lot accomplished with the blog, which always make me happy when I start to get a head! The baby is feeling much better already. He’s starting to eat better and he’s bouncing around and playing a lot more. I love so much to watch our boys play and be happy. When they’re happy, that makes me happy.

Day 16: Today was a great day. I was very productive and had the opportunity to snuggle our little guy. He snuggles the least out of the 3 boys, so when he wants to sit with me I 100 Days of Happiness: Week 3milk it! The boys and I were also happy because my husband was able to come home early this week, so it was nice to be able to see him.

Day 17: I had fun today. I was able to volunteer at our sons school for the book fair, thanks to my mom. I love being able to volunteer, but it can be difficult to do when I have the 2 little guys at home. Our oldest son just loves when I’m able to make it out to his school to 100 Days of Happiness: Week 3help. We also had parent/teacher conferences today and our sons teacher said that he’s very well liked, he’s doing great in school and she doesn’t have any concerns. It always makes me happy to hear nice things about our children. After my husband and I got home we allowed the boys to eat some ice cream together and watch a movie since there’s no school tomorrow. At the end of the night, my best friend tagged me in a picture on Facebook that made my week. It’s something so simple but everyone mom needs to hear it… “Just in case you haven’t heard it today… You Are An Amazing Mom!!!” – Hot Moms Club

Day 18: The boys and I went out to lunch with my husband because we love being able to spend time with him. After we left lunch we went and visited my mom and soon to be sister-in-law during their lunch. My mom loves getting surprise visits from the boys. When we were on our way home we made a stop at Biggby Coffee… because it’s our favorite, and I was happily surprised to find out that I had a free drink so I was only charged for my sons hot chocolate… score!100 Days of Happiness: Week 3

Day 19: Our oldest son had his first basketball game today and he did well considering the fact that his team hasn’t had a practice together yet! It’s always fun watching him do something that he enjoys. Today is also the start to my “Deer Widows Weekend,” my husband left for deer camp after the basketball game. Hopefully he’ll be lucky enough to bring home a big buck!

100 Days of Happiness: Week 3Day 20: The boys and I were pretty lazy today. We just kind of lounged around until about 1:00 pm, then we finally went grocery shopping. After we ate dinner our oldest son wanted to go over and play with his friend so we all went over and hung out for a couple of hours. All 6 kiddos had so much fun together, and it was nice to talk to a friend. It made me happy watching the boys put on a concert for us, and play with the baby, then our middle son decided it was a fun idea to put on dress heals and straighten our hair with a play hair straightener! Silly kiddos! I can’t imagine my life without them.

100 Days of Happiness: Week 2

100 Days of Happiness Week 3 FB

Week 2 of my 100 days of Happiness was much more difficult than last week. All of us have been sick, which makes me not want to do anything! That’s pretty much a recipe for disaster when you have 3 boys running around the house. On the bright side… we’re all in the tail end of it now!

100 Days of Happiness: Week 2Day 7: Today was a really good day! I was super excited to hear the mail truck come because I had a feeling that the Baltic Amber Necklaces that I’d been waiting on was here! I was super excited to open them and get them on myself and the baby. Literally within the first 12 hours I noticed a difference with the amount of drool coming from S3 cutting his 2 front teeth. I’ve also noticed that he’s not chewing on everything in sight either!

Day 8: Today I felt absolutely awful! I woke up with a terrible sinus headache, but luckily a couple of Tylenol wiped it out! I also have a really bad runny nose, sore throat and cough. I was officially sick with my first cold of the season. Despite me feeling like crap, the boys and I were very productive and that mad me really happy! We went to Kroger and killed two birds with one stone and picked up some Sugar Cookie International Delight that I’m reviewing for (which is delicious by the way!) and used a grocery cart cover that I was reviewing. When we were done at Kroger we jumped over to the new Biggby that opened up in our town… I’m super excited!!! I was very productive on the blog today, which always makes me happy, because it’s not always easy to do when you’re being pulled 3 different directions my 3 silly little boys! 🙂100 Days of Happiness: Week 2

Day 9: Today I literally wanted to do NOTHING. I felt awful, and although I didn’t do a thing with the blog, I did fold a ton of laundry and get a bunch more washed! It felt good to get that weight off of my shoulders. I also found out today that we had won a $50 gift certificate to a really good Mexican restaurant that we enjoy going to, so I was super excited about that!

Day 10: My week started to brighten up a little today. I woke up without a headache, and I could actually breathe! I also found out that I had been spotlighted on the 100 Happy Days Link Party!! THEN, my husband was able to come home a day early, so we were all super excited to see him! I know that one day doesn’t seem like much, but to 3 little boys it’s amazing!

Day 11: Today I was lazy, unmotivated and found out that there was a possibility that my husband had brought home bed bugs with him… super. Luckily, we believe now that the 2 bites he has were from a spider and not bed bugs… but I was happy because I began the declutter/deep clean process when I thought that it was a spider.

100 Days of Happiness: Week 2Day 12: Today we had the chance to take the boys over to my husbands grandfathers house, who we all love to pieces. After we visited for a little while we all went to our favorite Chinese restaurant near his house. It’s always a good day when we get to see Pops and eat Chinese! 🙂 I also found this picture of my husband when he was in his early twenties… what a stud! 😉

Day 13: Nothing makes me more happy than watching the 3 boys play together. I can’t help but smile when I hear S3’s little laugh and hear them all having fun together. I know there will come a time when those little laughs will be gone so I try to soak it up as often as possible!

It’s becoming easier for me to find at least 1 thing that made me happy each day, but I’d like to remember to do it through the day and not just at the end of the day. Hopefully this coming week it be easier for me!

100 Days of Happiness: Week 1

100 Days of Happiness: Week 1

100 Days of Happiness: Week 1I know that I said I was going to post a recap of my week every Monday but this week was our week to take part in Picture Book Month! You can read my post about the book and craft that we did here. From here on out though, I will be posting every Monday my recap of 100 Days of Happiness.

This past week was pretty easy for me to find my daily dose of happiness. It was the week of Halloween, so we were very busy. My husband also stayed home this past week and didn’t go out of town for work, so that made each day great in and of itself!

100 Days of Happiness: Week 1Day 1: S2 and S3 made me laugh when I pulled out the superhero winter hats and asked S2 if he wanted SPIDERMAN… he’s really into Spiderman now, thanks to Chobani Kids Pouches. S2 was laughing at how silly S3 looked in the hat which made us all laugh! There’s nothing better than hearing little tiny laughs, you can’t help but at least smile.

100 Days of Happiness: Week 1Day 2: We took the boys downtown to go trick-or-treating at all the different businesses. Although the mass amounts of people trying to make their way through the door can be a little stressful, it’s fun running into our friends and seeing how excited the boys get when they get candy and see their friends.

Day 3: This was S2’s birthday, he’s now a 2 year old! It was a bittersweet day, I was happy because he’s another year older, but also emotional because my baby is not a baby anymore! We’ve entered the “terrible two’s,” however, I think that 3 years old is worse than 2! We went to see my grandma at her retirement complex and the boys went trick or treating at everyone’s apartments. I think that all the seniors really enjoyed seeing all the little one’s dressed up, and the boys loved seeing grandma and getting CANDY! They love visiting Gram’s because she has a restaurant “in her house” and “a ton of doors”! She made them pumpkin shaped cookies that they thoroughly enjoyed and she also gave them 1/2 a bag of Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups (I may have enjoyed that more than them). 100 Days of Happiness: Week 1

100 Days of Happiness: Week 1

Day 4: Today I had to take S1 & S2 to the doctor for flu shots and 2 year check-up. S1 hates getting shots and had dreaded getting his flu shot. When it was time he put on a brave face for his brother and although it took the nurse 3 tries, he finally stood still long enough for her to do it. He teared up a bit, but stayed strong for his brother! The doctor also dropped the bomb that they both needed bloodwork done, so we headed straight to the lab so that I wouldn’t forget. S1 was so awesome, I couldn’t have been more proud of him. He sat there and watched, I couldn’t believe my eyes! After he was done and it was S2’s turn he was very scared even though he was sitting in my lap. His brother was so supportive and kept reassuring him that it’s not that bad, and that it only hurts a little when they put the needle in and take it out. S2 still cried for the majority of it, but I was so proud of how supportive his brother was toward him. I just love the relationship that they are developing.

100 Days of Happiness: Week 1Day 5: Today was great! We had S1’s Halloween party at school, so he had a half day. After we left school we met our friends and we all headed to the Luke Bryan Kick Up The Dust Tour! He is S1’s favorite country singer so he was so excited! We had a blast being able to spend some quality time alone with him, doing something that we all enjoy.

Day 6:  Tonight we went out for Halloween with our friends. Although it was raining and nasty outside, it made me happy seeing my husband with 2 of the 3 boys going from house to house. 100 Days of Happiness: Week 1

100 Days of Happiness: Week 1Day 7:  Today was the most difficult day to find my happiness this week. My husband left early in the morning for work, I had way more laundry than I was capable of doing in 1 day, the dishes were out of control because I needed to make more dishwasher detergent but needed to run to the store for supplies. After my husband came home from work we realized that he had fraudulent charges on his bank account, so we had to deal with that. I did find my happiness through all that though, and it was in the most unlikely place! I found this awesome coffee mug at the grocery store! There isn’t a more true statement about me, My family is my whole heart, they’re my world. I wake up every morning, take S1 to school, come home, make a cup of coffee and go sit at the desk. I knew that this mug would keep me inspired.

I think that my first week went well! I hope that you will decide to join me on this 100 days of happiness journey! You can check out my Facebook Page here for daily updates.

I Challenge You to 100 Days of Happiness

I Challenge you to 100 Days of Happiness

Last week a fellow blogger, Kate from A Kreative Whim, posted something about the 100 Days of Happiness Challenge and I was intrigued. The goal is to find something every day for 100 days that brings you happiness. Each day you take a picture of at least one thing that made you happy and post it to social media.I Challenge you to 100 Days of Happiness

My motivation for starting this challenge is my 3 boys and my husband. I find myself being crabby and stressed out all the time because my husband works a lot, so I’m usually alone with 3 boys and it can start to wear on me. I want to make sure that our boys see me happy more often than stressed out and irritable. I want to be able to show my husband how happy I am that he’s home rather than snap at the first thing that he says because I’m tired, and annoyed. I’m always happy when he comes home, but I’m not always the best at showing it because it’s usually late and I’m both physically and emotionally drained at that point. I want to change that. My goal is to focus on the happiness and not the negative each day.

I challenge each of you to 100 days of happiness with me! Every day I’m going to post a picture of something that made me happy on Facebook with #100happydays and #MessyLittleNest100happydays. You can like my Facebook page here so that you’re able to follow me on my journey and vise versa. I’m challenging each of you to do the same, take a picture of your happiness for the day and post it to my Facebook Page with the same hashtags. This way we can all keep each other accountable.

Every Monday I’m going to make a compilation post of everything that made me happy that week. I’m also going to try to pay attention to any changes that I see in my children, husband and life in general from doing this. I really hope that you all join me on this journey because I think that no matter how happy you currently are, there’s always room for more happiness!

If you have any questions about this challenge you can either ask me in the comments below or send an email.
